You can create dynamic tension in your photos by having an unbalanced composition or having the subject leading the viewers eyes out of the picture, such as having a horizontal photo of a person, they are placed on the right side of the image and are looking to the viewers right - essentially looking out of the photo.

You can create harmony or balance by centering the subject or having the subject on one side and looking or pointing back into the middle of the photo.
