Impressions of Canon XTi

Postby NeilS on Thu Feb 14, 2008 2:20 am

Picked up the XTi last week, 10 MP images, decent colour, fairly easy controls. One thing that would be nice is a second wheel to control aperture when in manual mode.

Do have to say, the standard kit lens with it (17-55mm) really isn't worth getting. If you can upgrade the lens when you buy this camera - it outperforms the cheap lens by a lot. I picked up a Tamron 28-70 f2.8 lens for $500 cdn which seems pretty good. The first photo below was taken with it. This was shot at the store where I was trying the lens, wide open aperture f2.8, 1/125th of a second, at 1600 ISO.

These images were shot with the kit lens and at this size look okay, but I'm sure I'm not going to only be posting to the web when I shoot.

I converted the shots to black and white in photoshop.
